Mike Murillo: First to 6.40s in NMRA/NMCA 10.5W Competition

His name is synonymous with Mustang drag racing history past and present and Mike Murillo is not slowing down. The SCT-sponsored racer laid down the law in both NMCA and NMRA competition by unleashing the first run in the 6.40s in the history of either organization’s 10.5W categories—Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5 and SCT Pro Outlaw 10.5. The historic run was accomplished during qualifying for the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals held at the prominent Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, GA). Murillo unleashed a scorching 6.49 at 232 mph to not only qualifying number one but he’d go on to take the victory over class-rival Eric LaFerriere who was driving Jason Carter’s famous 1980 Malibu.

After consulting with some prominent racers and members of the tightly knit 10.5W community, it has been decided that Murillo has the quickest and fastest pass with twin 88mm turbochargers in this genre of drag racing. Credit the Precision Turbo 88mm turbochargers for this accomplishment, with a combination of a few other key components, Brisk Racing Spark Plugs being one of them. The road to victory was a tough one as the field was the quickest and fastest one ever in the class history and he had tough competition from the likes of David DeMarco (6.51 at 232 mph), Carter/LaFerriere (6.54 at 232), Frank Mewshaw (6.60s at 220), and Tim Essick (6.60s at 224 mph). There were many other 6.70-6.90 players too and their combinations are fully capable of running in the 6.50s and 6.60s like these top competitors. It is going to be a slugfest in the Super Street and Pro Outlaw ranks this year as Murillo defends both titles. Murillo is also backed extensively by Trick Flow Specialties.
